Randvere is a village ( Estonian küla ) on the largest Estonian island of Saaremaa . It belongs to the Saaremaa rural community (until 2017: Laimjala rural community ) in the Saare district . Randvere is not to be confused with Suur-Randvere , which is also on the island of Saaremaa and part of which was called Randvere until 2017.

The village has 22 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It is located 34 kilometers northeast of the island's capital Kuressaare .

Personalities

The Estonian linguist and writer Johannes Aavik was born in Randvere in 1880 . For some of his works he used the pseudonym Juhan Randvere . On his hundredth birthday in 1980, a memorial stone designed by Aulik Rimm was unveiled at his birthplace .
