Sakla is a village ( Estonian küla ) on the largest Estonian island of Saaremaa . It belongs to the rural community Saaremaa (until 2017: rural community Valjala ) in the Saare district .

Population and location

The village has 88 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It is located 27 kilometers northeast of the island's capital Kuressaare .

history

The village of Sakla was first mentioned in 1645. Around the middle of the 18th century, the Kronsgut Sackla was built on local farmland .

After the Soviet occupation of Estonia, the first kolkhoz of the Estonian SSR was founded in Sakla in 1947 . It was named after the Estonian communist Viktor Kingissepp (1888-1922), who came from Saaremaa.

In the local library, a small museum deals with the history of the forced collectivization of agriculture in the region. There is also a private museum with historical radios and televisions in town.
