Viktor Kingissepp

Viktor Kingissepp (born March 12 . Jul / 24. March  1888 greg. In Kaarma on Saaremaa , Governorate of Livonia , Russian Empire , now Estonia , † 3. May 1922 in Tallinn ) was the founder and leader of the Communist Party of Estonia . His hometown Kuressaare was named after him from 1952 to 1988 . To this day the city of Kingissepp - formerly Jamburg (Ямбург) - in the Leningrad region in Russia bears his name .

On May 3, 1922, the Estonian Office for the Protection of the Constitution Kaitsepolitseiamet arrested Kingissepp, who was hiding in Tallinn. He was sentenced to death in an express trial that same day and shot . His body was thrown into the sea.
