Vintri (German Wintri ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) on the largest Estonian island Saaremaa . It belongs to the Saaremaa rural community (until 2017: Salme rural community ) in the Saare district .

The village on the east coast of the Sõrve peninsula has eighteen inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It was first mentioned in 1566 under the name Wintermusz .

During the Second World War , heavy fighting between the German and Soviet troops took place near Vintri in September 1941 and October 1944. The villages Vintri, Imara , Kaimri and Hindu , among others , were completely destroyed.
