Anseküla lighthouse

Anseküla (German Anseküll ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality Saaremaa (until 2017: rural municipality Salme ) on the Estonian island Saaremaa . It has 39 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2007). The village is located directly on the Baltic Sea .

The place was the center of a parish ( Anseküla kihelkond ) since the 16th century . In 1863 one of the very first local Estonian song festivals took place there.

The Anseküla lighthouse is located on the eastern beach of the Sõrve peninsula . The concrete construction is 29 meters high. It stands 42 meters above sea level. The light signal can be seen 7  nautical miles . The lighthouse is white in the lower part and black in the upper part.

The first church in Anseküla was built around 1300, a later one at the end of the 14th century. It was redesigned in 1864 and completely destroyed in fighting in 1944. The lighthouse was built in 1953 on the site of the former church.
