Ariste (German Harris ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) on the largest Estonian island Saaremaa . It belongs to the Saaremaa rural community (until 2017: Orissaare rural community ) in the Saare district . Ariste is not to be confused with Valjala-Ariste , which is also on the island of Saaremaa and was called Ariste until 2017.

The village has 27 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It is located 25 kilometers northeast of the island's capital Kuressaare .

The village was first mentioned in 1569 under the name Harist . To the north of the village center there are two cult stones with over sixty holes.
