Selgase (German Selli ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) on the largest Estonian island of Saaremaa . It belongs to the rural community Saaremaa (until 2017: rural community Mustjala ) in the Saare district .

Population and location

The village has nine inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It is located 26 kilometers northwest of the island's capital Kuressaare .

Well

The place used to be the center of the homonymous estate. The Bishop of Ösel-Wiek , Magnus , enfeoffed the Baltic German nobleman Dietrich von Essen with local land. In 1663 the family received the Swedish introduction. The estate remained in the possession of the von Essen family for 165 years . In 1737 it was sold to the von Stackelberg family .
