The maze of Kõrkvere

Kõrkvere (German Körkwere ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) on the largest Estonian island Saaremaa . It belongs to the rural community Saaremaa (until 2017: rural community Pöide ) in the Saare district .

description

The village has 57 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It is located directly on the Baltic Sea on the Väike väin (Little Sound), the strait between the islands of Saaremaa and Muhu .

The massive Dutch windmill of Kõrkvere with its farmhouse was built in the 1930s. The facility is now a listed building.

The former fishing port of Pae (Pae sadam) is located north of the village center . The port facilities and the mole are largely in ruins today.

Maze

Kõrkvere is also known for its 4.5 meter high maze . It is 9.8 meters long and 6.9 meters wide. Its circumference is 25.2 meters.
