The birthplace of the writer August Mälk in the former village of Kipi-Koovi

Koovi is a village ( Estonian küla ) on the largest Estonian island of Saaremaa . It belongs to the rural municipality Saaremaa (until 2017: rural municipality Lääne-Saare ) in the Saare district .

The village has fourteen inhabitants (as of January 1, 2016).

The place is located directly on the Baltic Sea , on the east bank of the Pilguse bay .

Personalities

The Estonian writer August Mälk (1900–1987) was born on the Vähiku talu farm .

From 1872 to 1920 the local school of the region was located in Koovi, which August Mälk also attended.
