Lääne-Saare ( Lääne-Saare vald ) is a former rural municipality in the Estonian district of Saare on the largest Estonian island of Saaremaa . In 2017 all municipalities on Saaremaa merged to form the new rural municipality Saaremaa .

The rural community of Lääne-Saare was founded in December 2014 as part of an administrative reform. It emerged from a merger of the previous municipalities of Kaarma , Kärla and Lümanda . The administrative seat was in the island's capital Kuressaare .

It bordered the city of Kuressaare and the rural communities of Salme , Mustjala , Leisi , Kihelkonna and Pihtla . The coastline to the Baltic Sea was 202 kilometers long.

The emblem of the rural community showed the North Star as a centuries-old landmark for sailors and path searcher. The wavy lines symbolized the proximity to the sea.
