Churches
At the beginning of the 14th century, the independent parish of Kärla (Kergel) was separated from the parish of Kaarma (Karmel) . In the Middle Ages, a nunnery is said to have existed in the area.
The St. Marien Magdalenen Church was built from stone in 1313. In 1556 the church was badly damaged by a large fire. The remains were removed in 1842 due to the risk of collapse. The free-standing bell tower built in 1614 was initially preserved. It was destroyed by the Red Army in the summer of 1941 .
In 1843 the new, single-aisle Evangelical Lutheran church was inaugurated in the classicism style . The plans came from the architect Heinrich Löwener. Later the sacred building was supplemented by a square neo-Gothic tower . The two bells date from 1705 and 1794.
The interior decoration includes valuable works from the Renaissance . This includes the epitaph of the lord of Paadla , Otto von Buxhoeveden, who died in 1575 . It probably dates from 1591 and is attributed to the carver Tönnies Evers (d. J.) who worked in Lübeck . In 1637 the epitaph was renovated by Balthasar Raschki. It depicts the mourning Virgin Mary , Mary Magdalene and the apostle John .
A 4.4 hectare park adjoins the church.
