Merise (German Merrise ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) on the largest Estonian island Saaremaa (German Ösel ). It belongs to the rural community Saaremaa (until 2017: rural community Mustjala ) in the Saare district .

Population and location

The village has no residents today (as of December 31, 2011). It is right on the Baltic Sea.

Lake Kooru järv is located south of the village center .

meteorite

On April 29th July / May 11th  1855 greg. went at the farm Kaande a meteor shower down. It was the first meteorite to fall in Estonia that has been eyewitness accounts. Remains of a meteorite with a total weight of 21 grams were then found in the ground.
