Kõiguste (German Koigust ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) on the largest Estonian island Saaremaa . It belongs to the Saaremaa rural community (until 2017: Laimjala rural community ) in the Saare district .

Population and location

The village has ten inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It is located 33 kilometers northeast of the island's capital Kuressaare , near the Baltic Sea coast.

The place houses a small port. He gave the shallow bay ( Kõiguste laht , also Kunnati laht ) with its many islets its name.

Birgitstein

The place is also known for the Birgitstein ( Pireti kivi ). The boulder has a circumference of 17.9 meters and a height of 3.8 meters. According to legend, it is associated with the adventures of Birgit (Estonian Piret), wife of the Saaremaa giant Suur Tõll .
