Angla (Saaremaa)

Angla is a village ( Estonian küla ) on the largest Estonian island of Saaremaa . It belongs to the rural community Saaremaa (until 2017: rural community Leisi ) in the Saare district .
Population, location and history
The village has 22 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It is 31 kilometers northeast of the island's capital Kuressaare .
The place was first mentioned in 1547 under the name Hangell .
Windmills
Angla is best known today for its windmills . You are on a hill not far from the village center, the so-called Mühlenberg von Angla . Of the once twelve windmills in the village, four of the original post mills and one Dutch windmill are still preserved today. The oldest is from 1880, the youngest from 1927.
The Angla Mill Hill is one of the landmarks of Saaremaa Island. In addition, a cultural heritage center was inaugurated in 2011, in whose arts and crafts ateliers various workshops are offered.
