Koigi (German Koik ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) on the largest Estonian island Saaremaa . It belongs to the rural community Saaremaa (until 2017: rural community Pöide ) in the Saare district .

Population and location

The village has 38 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It is 45 kilometers northeast of the island's capital, Kuressaare .

West of the town center is the forty square kilometer moor of the same name (Koigi soo) . Inside is the 1.76 square kilometer Koigi Lake ( Koigi järv ) .

history

In 1441 the village of Koicke was given to the Köning brothers. Soon a courtyard was built there. The village is also documented for the year 1523.
