Väike-Rootsi (also outdated Püsku-Rootsi ; German Klein-Rotsi ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) on the largest Estonian island of Saaremaa . It belongs to the rural community Saaremaa (until 2017: rural community Pihtla ) in the Saare district .

Population, location and history

The village has two residents (as of December 31, 2011). It is located at the tip of the Vätta peninsula ( Vätta poolsaar ), which protrudes into the Baltic Sea . The area is a particularly popular destination for hikers.

Like its neighbor Suure-Rootsi, the village was first mentioned in 1497 under the name Vettel . At that time it was inhabited by Swedes. Rootsi means "Sweden" in Estonian , Väike means "small".
