history

In 1529 the two villages Maha-Lulupe and Saxalullenpee were first mentioned in a document.

In 1570 a Conrad Bauermeister (Buhrmeister) received land in the area. The Lulopäh farm developed from this . From 1570 to 1807 it was owned by the noble Baltic German family Buhrmeister and Buxhoeveden . The last private owner before the expropriation in the course of the Estonian land reform in 1919 was the Baltic German Ernst von Güldenstubbe .

Forest brothers

On August 12, 1950, Soviet security forces tracked down a group of Estonian partisans ( forest brothers ) near Luulupe who had withdrawn to the rural areas of Saaremaa after the occupation of Estonia by the Red Army . One of the most famous Estonian forest brothers, Elmar Ilp (1919–1950), was killed during the shooting .
