history
Leisi was first mentioned in 1645 under the name Löyszküll . In the 17th century a farm was built as a Kronsgut .
In the 19th century most of the land was distributed to the peasants and the farmland was transferred to the Orthodox Church . In the spring of 1843, a third of the population of the local parish converted from the Lutheran Church to Orthodoxy, mostly in the hope of an allocation of arable land. In 1850 an Orthodox parish was founded in Leisi.
Church of Saint Olga
The orthodox church in Leisi was inaugurated in 1873. It bears the name of St. Olga of Kiev . The floor plan of the sacred building follows a Greek cross . Five silver-colored domes made of zinc sheet rise above it .
The building planned under the direction of the Riga architect Heinrich Carl Scheel is a type project . The same places of worship are in Arussaare , Lalsi , Ööriku , Uraste and other places.
The Orthodox community is now subordinate to the Estonian Apostolic Orthodox Church (EAÕK), which is aligned with Constantinople .
There is also a small Baptist parish on site .
