Soviet memorial
On the night of October 8th to 9th, 1944, Tehumardi was the scene of a bitter night battle between German and Soviet troops. Estonians also fought on both sides .
A Soviet memorial commemorates the events. It was built from concrete and dolomite stone in 1966/67 on the beach of Tehumardi on the basis of a memorial that was established in 1948 . The plans come from the Estonian sculptors and architects Riho Kuld , Matti Varik and Allan Murdmaa .
The monument shows a 21-meter-high, broken sword into which male faces have been worked. There are ninety diamond-shaped concrete slabs on which the names of the Soviet fallen are immortalized under a five-pointed star.
