Pöide-Keskvere (German Keskfer ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) on the largest Estonian island of Saaremaa . It belongs to the rural community Saaremaa (until 2017: rural community Pöide ) in the Saare district . Until the reestablishment of the rural community Saaremaa, the place was called "Keskvere" and was renamed to differentiate itself from Keskvere , as both are now in the same rural community.

Population and location

The village has eight residents (as of December 31, 2011). It is located in close proximity to the strait between the islands of Saaremaa and Muhu , the Väike väin (German Little Sound ). The distance to the island's capital Kuressaare is 50 kilometers.

history

The village was first mentioned in 1645 under the name Keskfer . After times of plague and war it had no more inhabitants. At the beginning of the 18th century, the Kronsgut Keskfer was built on empty farmland . In 1912 most of the arable land was distributed to Estonian farmers, the rest in 1922.
