Kõruse (German Karruste ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) on the largest Estonian island Saaremaa . It belongs to the rural community of Saaremaa (until 2017: rural community of Kihelkonna ) in the Saare district .

Population and location

The village has twelve inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It is located on the Tagamõisa peninsula, 37 kilometers northwest of the island's capital Kuressaare . To the northwest of the village center are the two lakes Saka järv and Kiljatu järv .

history

The place was first mentioned in 1561. Kõruse is best known for its historic windmill. It dates from 1781. In 2014 it was extensively renovated.
