Good Loona
Oral tradition has it that a nunnery with a chapel stood on site in the Middle Ages . The farm already existed during the 15th century. Hans Scharenbrech is proven to be the owner for 1480.
From 1514 to 1791 the estate was owned by the noble Baltic German family Lode . This is where the Estonian name of the place comes from. During the 19th century the estate was owned by the Hoyningen-Huene family . The last private owner before the expropriation in the course of the Estonian land reform in 1919 was the Baltic German Olga Baroness Hoyningen-Huene.
The current mansion in the Baroque style dates from 1785. Some structural elements have been preserved from earlier times, especially the thick walls in the basement, which suggest a former vassal castle. In the 19th century a triangular gable was installed over the main entrance. At the same time, the park was expanded and a garden pavilion was added.
The mansion was extensively renovated in 1997. Today it houses the administration of the Vilsandi National Park and a guest house.
