Kuusnõmme (German Kusnöm ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) on the largest Estonian island Saaremaa . It belongs to the rural municipality Saaremaa (until 2017: rural municipality Lääne-Saare ) in the Saare district .

The village is located 31 kilometers northwest of the island's capital Kuressaare . It has eleven inhabitants (as of January 1, 2016).

To the northeast of the village center, the Kuusnõmme poolsaar peninsula extends four kilometers into the Baltic Sea . The 22 hectare lake Suursilm is located on the peninsula . The area is particularly popular with hikers and bird watchers. From 1924 to 1941 a biological station of the University of Tartu was located there .

The place of interest is a post mill built in 1891 .

Personalities

The Estonian writer Aadu Hint (1910–1989) spent his childhood and school days in Kuusnõmme .
