Odalätsi (German Oddolats ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) on the largest Estonian island of Saaremaa . It belongs to the rural community of Saaremaa (until 2017: rural community of Kihelkonna ) in the Saare district .

description

The village has three residents (as of December 31, 2011). It is located 26 kilometers northwest of the island's capital Kuressaare .

The place was first mentioned in 1592.

Odalätsi is best known for its sources. The water in this karst area comes from the surrounding moors and the nearby Karujärv lake . In 1973 the seven-hectare spring area, which is located in a pine forest , was placed under nature protection. Some folk legends have grown up around the sources, including the giant Suur Tõll and his opponent, the Vanapagan .

The 92 hectare dune area of Odalätsi ( Odalätsi luitestik ) is located southwest of the village center . The parabolic dunes, which are rare in Estonia, are up to 27 meters high.

To the east of the place, archaeologists have found a prehistoric castle hill ( Kihelkonna maalinn ) from the 10th and 11th centuries AD.
