Cut Up is a Swedish death metal band from Karlstad that was formed in 2014.

history

The band was founded in early 2014 by drummer Tobias Gustafsson and bassist and singer Erik Rundqvist, after their previous band Vomitory split up after 24 years in late 2013. The duo started looking for further members in February or March 2014. A short time later, guitarist Anders Bertilsson and guitarist and singer Andreas Björnson joined them and completed the line-up. Bertilsson had previously worked at Coldworker and Björnson had already gained experience at Fetus Stench. The first band rehearsal took place on April 8, 2014. In the following months they wrote and rehearsed the first songs before going to Big Balls Studios in Karlstadt in November of the same year to record eleven songs for the debut album Forensic Nightmares . The material was mixed and mastered by Ronnie Björnström in Garageland Studios in Umeå . Shortly after the recordings were finished, the group signed a recording deal with Metal Blade Records for the release of several albums.

style

In an interview with Patrick Schmidt in Nuclear Blast Magazin & Mai , Tobias Gustafsson stated that he wrote most of the lyrics and music for Vomitory. Schmidt noted that with Cut Up, unlike Vomitory, there is polyphonic singing. Sebastian Schilling from Rock Hard felt strongly reminiscent of Vomitory while listening to the album. In an interview with Schilling, Gustafsson stated that the band tried to make the music more intense with the two-part singing. In addition, they wanted to make the songs varied instead of just playing at high speed, and they tried to sound “ groovy and heavy”. In addition, they want to sound fresh, but without denying their old school Death Metal roots. The first song on the album Enter Hell is the last that was written for Vomitory. Schmidt Forensic Nightmares had reviewed a previous issue and described the music as a continuation of Vomitory, although the group played Death Metal, which was "even more focused and brutal". In Remember the Flesh the group reminds of Slayer in places .
