Friedrich Julius

Friedrich Julius , actually Friedrich Julius von Kleist ( 1776 - 1860 in Dresden ) was a German theater actor .

Life

Julius comes from the noble Kleist family . Nothing is known about his parents. He was trained for a military career and served with distinction in the Prussian army, most recently as an officer. However, since he felt more like an actor than a soldier, he quit his service in 1794, gave up his noble name and made his debut in Breslau, taking his first name as an artist name.

He worked there for a long time until he received a call to the Royal Saxon Court Acting Society and made a guest appearance in Leipzig on July 21, 1817. The debut turned out so cheap that he was hired straight away. Julius worked in Dresden until his retirement in 1833. Among other things, he appeared in the title role of Prince Friedrich von Homburg in Heinrich von Kleist's play Prince Friedrich von Homburg or the Battle of Fehrbellin , which was first performed in December 1821 with Kleist's preface. Friedrich Julius had also directed the play.

The artist lived after he wanted nothing more to the theater, which he henceforth shunned by the whole world as a misanthrope , until he finally ended in a high old age in 1860 by suicide.
