Hermann Ohl (born August 29, 1836 in Neustrelitz ; † July 3, 1914 in Ratzeburg ; full name: Hermann Karl Ernst Ludwig Ohl , also: Hermann Carl Ernst Ludwig Ohl ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran clergyman, educator and author.

Life

Hermann Ohl was a son of the later Neustrelitz court preacher and superintendent Hermann Leberecht Ohl (1806-1885). He attended the city school in Stargard and the Carolinum grammar school in Neustrelitz. From 1854 he studied Protestant theology at the universities of Erlangen , Berlin and from 1857 Rostock . After passing the theological exam, he was initially a teacher at the Mintersche Educational Institute in Ludwigslust from 1859 to 1860 . From 1860 to 1862 he worked as a preacher in Schönbeck and in 1862/63 he was a teacher at the Friedland high school (Mecklenburg) for one school year . In 1863/64 he accompanied Paul von Joukowsky as court master on his grand tour to Rome , Naples and Bonn .

In 1864 he got his first permanent position as rector in Wesenberg . In 1868 he became pastor in Selmsdorf , in 1880 prepositus in Stargard and from 1891 until his retirement in 1910 he was provost at Ratzeburg Cathedral . In 1896 he was awarded the title of Consistorial Counselor.

Since 1882 he was a member of the Association for Mecklenburg History and Archeology .

Ohl was married to Johanna, geb. Berlin (February 1, 1840 - August 28, 1904), a doctor's daughter from Strelitz.
