Friedrich Koch (architect)

Friedrich Koch (born March 15, 1828 in Berlin ; † September 11, 1922 ibid.) Was a German architect and publicist.

Life

After attending the municipal trade school from 1843 to 1846, Friedrich (Fritz) Koch completed an apprenticeship as a mason with the master mason Karchow, in whose construction office he worked as a bricklayer from 1848 to 1851. In the meantime he had done military service in 1847/48. In addition to his work as a bricklayer, he completed a degree at the Academy of Arts . From 1851 to 1853 he traveled to Italy, Sicily and France and made numerous drawings. In 1853/54 he worked in Adolf Lohse's studio and on the construction of Albrechtsberg Castle in Dresden and passed the master mason examination. From 1854 to 1856 he studied at the Berlin Building Academy with a final private master builder examination. In 1856 he became a member of the Berlin Architects' Association . In the following years he worked as a private master builder in Berlin. In 1862 he traveled to London and in 1872 to Denmark. On June 8, 1879, he was one of the founders of the Association of Berlin Architects , of which he became an honorary member in 1908. In 1907 he was appointed building officer.
