Friedrich Mayer (born April 22, 1881 in Heimerdingen , † December 12, 1946 in Münsingen (Württemberg) ) was a German elementary school teacher and author of pietistic writings.

Life

Mayer was born as the son of the weaver Friedrich Mayer in Heimerdingen. From 1895 he attended the teachers' seminar in Nagold and after passing the elementary school service exam he became a teacher in Pfahlbronn in 1900 , in Böckingen in 1901 , in Tübingen in 1903 and in Münsingen in the same year, where he had held a permanent teaching position at the elementary school from 1910. After suffering a heart attack in 1933, he was retired in 1935.

In Münsingen, Mayer was an active member of the old Pietist congregation and, until the end, head of the Hahn community there . As a devout Christian, he was in opposition to National Socialism and, for example, refused to raise the swastika flag at the community center in June 1940 after the Battle of Flanders , for which he was taken into protective custody for three weeks and sentenced in an official criminal case. The community house had to be sold to the NSDAP. In 1942 Mayer was reactivated for school service. Another official criminal case for refusing to show the German greeting ended in 1944 with the withdrawal of part of his pension. Mayer died in Münsingen in 1946. He found his final resting place in the cemetery of his home parish Heimerdingen.
