Friedrich Strauch

Friedrich Strauch (born November 23, 1935 in Homberg / Niederrhein ) is a German paleontologist .

Life

From 1956 onwards, Strauch studied geology, palaeontology, biology and medicine at the University of Cologne and the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich as a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation . In 1961 he received his diploma in geology and paleontology in Cologne and in 1962 he was there with Martin Schwarzenbach to Dr. rer. nat. PhD. From 1963 he was a research assistant in paleontology and in 1971 he completed his habilitation. From 1971 to 1973 he was visiting professor at the University of Aarhus and from 1973 an adjunct professor and later professor at the University of Cologne.

In 1980 he became professor of paleontology at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster and director of the geological-paleontological institute and museum there.

He is married and has three children.

Act

Strauch deals with general paleontology, evolutionary research, fauna and flora of the Tertiary (for example in the Rhineland and Greece), with paleoclimatology and paleoecology.

In 1999 he became an honorary member of the Paleontological Society , of which he was chairman from 1989 to 1992. He is a full member of the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz . Strauch received the Credner Prize , the Abraham Gottlob Werner Badge of Honor and the Silver Alfred Wegener Medal . From 1989 to 1997, Strauch was President and Vice President of the GeoUnion Alfred Wegener Foundation . He was also the organizer of the geoscientific and geotechnical fair geotecnica .

In 1993 he was appointed Knight of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem by Cardinal Grand Master Giuseppe Cardinal Caprio and invested on October 2, 1993 by Anton Schlembach , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy .
