Friedrich Weitz (born July 21, 1865 in Pyrmont , † January 15, 1929 in Hanover ) was a German businessman.

family

His grandparents were the master bricklayer and white maker Friedrich Wilhelm Weitz and Catharina Döll.

His parents were the ivory carver and glass engraver Wilhelm Weitz (born October 17, 1819 in Braunfels , † December 6, 1906 in Bad Pyrmont) and (Hanne Dorothea) Luise Zeddies (1820-1899; ⚭ 1849 in Latferde ). His father had opened a shop in the spa town of Bad Pyrmont in 1848 and offered the spa guests fine carvings as souvenirs. Since every spa guest was obliged to use his own fountain glass, he also offered engraved glasses two years later. In the course of time he changed from an artisan to a trader. One of the father's grandsons was the internist Wilhelm Weitz .

Life

Friedrich Weitz opened his specialty store Cristallerie Weitz for fine glass and crystal goods in Georgstrasse in Hanover in 1894 .

Around 1900 he entered into connections with large foreign crystal factories and porcelain manufacturers and operated as a specialist shop for crystal, glass and porcelain .

A little later he opened branches, some with partners, in Hamburg (1904), Düsseldorf (1907), Cologne, Copenhagen (1910) and in seaside resorts on Norderney, in Westerland on Sylt and Bad Nauheim.

His son Walter (born November 20, 1895 - October 10, 1974) took over the business after his death, led it through the economic crisis and rebuilt it at the old location by 1950 after it was destroyed in World War II.
