Friedrich Wilhelm Krause , from 1873 Friedrich Wilhelm von Krause (* December 7, 1802 in Liebenwalde , † November 13, 1877 in Berlin ) was a German wine merchant, private banker and industrialist, who was also called Weinkrause by the Berliners . He founded a private banking business in his wine shop, which went bankrupt in the wake of the global economic crisis under the managing director Heinz von Boettinger .

Life

He was born the son of the preacher Christian Wilhelm Krause (1753-1813) and his wife Anna Elisabeth nee Ziesemer (1770-1830). The latter was also the daughter of a pastor. After attending school, Friedrich Wilhelm Krause began a commercial apprenticeship in the Prussian royal seat of Berlin at the age of 14. Here in 1827 he founded a wine shop on Alte Grünstraße, which over time has developed into one of the largest wine shops in Berlin. There he opened a banking business in 1858, from which the private bank FW Krause & Co. banking limited partnership developed.

At the end of the 1850s, Friedrich Wilhelm Krause acquired more than 50 percent of the shares in the Neusalz an der Oder ironworks, which was founded by the Aktienverein in 1827 and which also produced stoves and household cookers. Friedrich Wilhelm von Krause dissolved the Aktienverein Eisenhütte Neusalz in 1858 , and since 1862 he was the sole owner of the ironworks and enamelling plant there. Krause let the blast furnace run on this plant until the year of his death and then shut it down. Further production took place with a cupola furnace and was continued by his son of the same name.

On February 22, 1873, the Secret Commerce Councilor Friedrich Wilhelm Krause was elevated to the Prussian nobility by King Wilhelm I.

The tomb of Friedrich Wilhelm von Krause has been preserved to this day in Cemetery II of the Trinity Community in Berlin-Kreuzberg.
