A piece of Frisian cake

Friesentorte is a typical cake specialty from North Friesland ( Schleswig-Holstein ) and East Friesland ( Lower Saxony ), which is meanwhile also widespread in other areas (of the northern part) of Northern Germany .

It is a layered cake made from shortcrust pastry , puff pastry , whipped cream and plum jam . On a base made of shortcrust pastry, two to three layers of plum jam, whipped cream and bases made of puff pastry are layered alternately, ending with a layer of cream on which triangular pieces of puff pastry (one for each piece of cake) are placed at an angle. In some variants, nuts, alcohol, etc. are also used. The variant with marzipan is known in neighboring Denmark under the name Gåsebryst (literally goose breast ).
