Frits Ørskov

Frits Ørskov (born January 20, 1922 in Frederiksborg Amt , † July 29, 2015 ) was a Danish microbiologist .

He was the son of the director of the Danish Serum Institute, Jeppe Ørskov (1892–1977). He studied medicine and received his doctorate in Copenhagen . In 1948 he married his fellow student Ida Ørskov , with whom he had two children and with whom he subsequently worked closely on a professional basis. Both headed a center in Copenhagen for research into (pathogenic) enterobacteria such as E. coli bacteria at the state serum institute in Copenhagen.

In 1990 he and Ida Ørskov received the Paul Ehrlich and Ludwig Darmstaedter Prize .
