Fritz Bauer (1915)

Fritz Bauer (born February 9, 1893 in Charlottenburg , † December 10, 1982 in Berlin ) was a German racing cyclist .

Life

Fritz Bauer was a professional cyclist from 1912 to 1933 , having started cycling as an amateur in 1909. On the road, he mainly achieved podium places, such as in Vienna – Berlin in 1912 and 1914 (second), Rund um die Hainleite 1913 (second), the German road championship in 1913 (third) and in Rund um Berlin 1913 (third). In 1915 he achieved his first success with victory at Berlin – Cottbus – Berlin , which he won a second time in 1916. Bauer later considered second place on the long-distance journey from Vienna to Berlin in 1912 behind Franz Suter as his most beautiful race, as he succeeded in achieving this place with great will despite poor form. By his own admission, he would have ended his career as a road driver if he had disappointed in this race.

Bauer also started in 19 six-day races, two of which he won in Berlin : in 1922 with Karl Saldow and in 1923 with Oskar Tietz . In 1926 and 1929 he was third in the German championship in the standing race . He had started his standing career as a pacemaker with his brother Max (born July 6, 1886) before the First World War . Max Bauer had a fatal accident on the Treptow cycling track in 1916 . Fritz Bauer was able to win the Golden Wheel of Berlin (held in Treptow) from 1916 to 1919. He himself assessed the victory of 1916 as just as valuable as his second place in the race from Vienna to Berlin in 1912.

Even after 1945, Bauer competed in races as a "senior driver". In 1948, at the age of 55, he took part in the anniversary race of the Golden Wheel at the Neukölln Velodrome . The following year he started a circuit race in Berlin.

Professional

After his career, Bauer worked as a representative in the textile industry.
