Friedrich "Fritz" Baumgärtner (born March 14, 1897 in Dielkirchen , † April 10, 1957 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) was a German politician ( KPD ).

Life

Fritz Baumgärtner married Barbara Elisabeth Elker on July 2, 1920 in Dielkirchen. Together they had two sons, Friedrich Baumgärtner (born September 22, 1920 in Potzbach near Winnweiler ; † August 23, 1991 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein) and Hans August Baumgärtner (born July 14, 1925 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein; † November 19, 1944 in the Haboudange area , France )

After the National Socialists “ seized power ” in 1933, he was deported to the Dachau concentration camp and then imprisoned for 16 months in prison.

Fritz Baumgärtner worked as a metal worker at BASF until 1922 . From 1923 to 1925 he was managing director of the communist chemical industry association. After the Second World War he became regional chairman of IG Metall in 1945 .

politics

Baumgärtner became a member of the USPD in 1919 and joined the KPD in 1920. In 1928 he was expelled from the KPD as a member of the ultra-left Weddinger opposition , but was reinstated in 1931. In 1945 he was elected first chairman of the KPD Palatinate. In 1946 he was a co-founder of the KP Hessen-Palatinate and a member of the state management. In February 1951 Baumgärtner resigned from the KPD. From 1924 to 1928 Baumgärtner was a member of the Bavarian State Parliament for the KPD (Ludwigshafen II district). From 1946 to 1952 he was on the city ​​council of Ludwigshafen am Rhein. In 1946 he became a member of the advisory state assembly in the newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate and from 1947 to 1951 he was a member of the first Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament . In 1949 he ran unsuccessfully for the first German Bundestag . In 1950 Baumgärtner was elected to the Palatinate District Assembly.
