from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fritz Brenne (born May 15, 1901 in Leipzig ; † May 6, 2003 in Chemnitz ) was a German tennis official and “Germany's oldest tennis player” during his lifetime.

Fritz Brenne came to Chemnitz from Leipzig in 1933 and was a tennis activist from the very beginning in 1946. Under his aegis, the dilapidated tennis court in the Küchwald was restored and the Chemnitz Tennis Club Küchwald was built. In 1989 the last GDR tennis championships took place on the tennis grounds in Chemnitz. Brenne was chairman of this association, which in GDR times was called BSG Einheit Mitte until he was 100 years old. He also remained active as a player and was therefore considered the "oldest tennis player in Germany".

Brenne also worked as a trainer, in tennis and skiing. Later he became honorary chairman of the Saxon tennis association and his Chemnitz club.

In 1999 Brenne was awarded the Chemmy for his life's work, and he received the gold badge of honor from the German Tennis Association .
