Fritz Edtmeier

Fritz Edtmeier (born October 25, 1925 in Gmunden ; † November 26, 1982 ) was an Austrian humorist . His saying know you! was his trademark and sometimes even his nickname.

Life

Fritz Edtmeier was born on October 25, 1925 in Gmunden am Traunsee and became a humorist through solo appearances in the late 1950s. Soon he received numerous invitations as an emcee . In his everyday "impromptu stories", he mainly commented on current events, but never gave the names of those involved. Rather, he always dropped the words “know you from” whenever the audience had just sparked.

His debut in the Wiener Stadthalle - together with Heinz Conrads or Fritz Muliar - was a resounding success. So Fritz Edtmeier was then committed to a tour throughout Austria with a total of 30 appearances. The first own television program of the Austrian radio was broadcast in 1962.

Edtmeier also celebrated successes as a singer. His best known title is “I have an Bauernkasten”. Together with the record company Polydor, 18 long-playing records were produced, for which Fritz Edtmeier was awarded two gold records.

From 1961 to 1980 Edtmeier was the chief executive of the Kern-Buam from Gradenberg near Köflach . As early as 1961, the first joint record was produced with the Kern-Buam.

After a heart attack and a stroke in 1980, Fritz Edtmeier was once again in the public eye. Karl Moik presented him with the last gold record on the occasion of the Musikantenstadl from Gmunden in his house in Gschwandt and a review of Edtmeier's career was shown. A visit to the show was no longer possible due to his health. Fritz Edtmeier died on November 26, 1982 at the age of 57. On the 20th anniversary of his death, the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation produced a one-hour in-memoriam show.
