Fritz Flothmann, German publisher from Kettwig, now Essen (1845–1926)

Friedrich Wilhelm Flothmann (born June 14, 1845 in Kettwig (today in Essen ), † January 22, 1926 there ) was a German publisher.

prehistory

His father, the master bookbinder Johann Wilhelm Alexander Flothmann, had already founded a bookbinding and paper business on November 1, 1838 in his hometown of Kettwig.

Fritz Flothmann first completed his military service, during which he took part in the Battle of Königgrätz in 1866 .

Publishing history

After his father's death in 1868, Fritz Flothmann took over the business. In 1874 he founded the Kettwiger Zeitung, in 1892 a branch in Kupferdreh and the Kupferdreher Zeitung. In 1904 he founded F. Flothmann GmbH with his older sons. In 1905 this was acquired by the Essen book and lithographic printing company Block, which was then headed by Otto Flothmann. After the First World War , the copper turning business was sold again.

Fritz Flothmann was married to Lisette nee Hölters (1847–1937). The family had a total of nine children.

Further company history

After the widow Lisette Flothmann became the main owner of the GmbH, the Velberter Zeitung was acquired in 1927 . Karl Flothmann took over the management. In 1938 F. Flothmann GmbH was converted into a limited partnership led by the sons Wilhelm, Otto and Paul Flothmann. Wilhelm Flothmann was also 1st alderman of the city of Kettwig and in 1923 represented the arrested mayor of the city.
