Fritz Gugelmeier
Fritz Gugelmeier (born March 9, 1901 in Auggen , Baden-Württemberg ; † March 9, 1978 there ), was a Markgräfler farmer , winemaker and local poet .
Live and act
Fritz Gugelmeier worked as a farmer and winemaker. He was married to his wife Luise for 51 years. They had 6 children together. Friedrich (†), Rosemarie, Gretle, Christel, Hansjörg and Johanna (†).
At the age of 76, Fritz Gugelmeier presented a collection of his Alemannic poems in November 1977. The volume of poems "Bröckeli" contains a unique, printed collection with around 100 poems from the pool of over 300 works. Fritz Gugelmeier died only a few months later, on March 9, 1978, on his 77th birthday, and was never able to find out how his “Bröckeli” was received by the readers.
To interpret the word "Bröckeli" he used a picture from his childhood, when his mother once cut small pieces of bread, Bröckeli, into the bowls of her boys and maidili while drinking coffee. And later, too, he said, “I've grown old and older / Bröckeli hets allno ge”. In his verses, he describes what he experienced in himself, in the village community and in the Markgräflerland in his home village. He grew up with three siblings on a farm in the wine town of Auggen and had to start farming and viticulture from an early age. The day's work began at four or five o'clock. So it is understandable when many of his poems come from the rural area. Most of the poems were written in the barn in the mornings: “It was the best time with the cows.” To write it down, he used pieces of paper and papers of all kinds, the back of calendar sheets, and printed matter that he just had “in his sack”.
On the occasion of his 100th birthday on March 9, 2001, the municipality of Auggen organized a commemoration for which the book “Brot un Wi” was published. This also contained previously unpublished poems and verses from the 1920s, also in High German.
The Fritz-Gugelmeier-Strasse in Auggen is named after him.
