Fritz "Itze" Gunst (born September 22, 1908 in Hanover ; † November 9, 1992 ) was a German water polo player .

At the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928 he was Olympic champion with the German water polo team . Four years later, at the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , and eight years later, at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin , he again won the silver medal in water polo. Gunst came third at the first European water polo championship in 1926, and in 1931, 1934 and 1938 he was involved in winning the silver medal. In total, Gunst took part in 86 international matches.

Fritz Gunst belonged to the SV Wasserfreunde 1898 Hanover , with the Wasserfreunde he became German champion in 1927, 1936, 1937 and 1938.

In 1990 he was inducted into the international swimming pool 's hall of fame .

During World War II, he was injured and amputated his thigh. Nevertheless, he was still active in sports afterwards and in 1947 became the unofficial German champion with the Hannoversche SV.
