Fritz H. Schröder

Fritz H. Schröder (born September 2, 1937 in Kassel ) is a German physician and international scientist specializing in urological oncology and prostate cancer . Schröder was professor of urology at the Erasmus University Rotterdam until 2012 with prizes and honors in Europe and the USA .

Academic and professional career

Fritz H. Schröder studied medicine at the universities of Hamburg, Marburg and Saarbrücken from 1959 to 1965. Before that he had studied law at the University of Marburg / Lahn from 1958 to 1959 . After receiving his doctorate in 1967, he trained as a specialist in urology at the Universities of California in Los Angeles and San Diego and at the Saarland University in Homburg / Saar until 1971 . After his habilitation in 1972, Schröder was senior physician in charge as a private lecturer at the urological university clinic in Würzburg until 1976 . From 1977 to 2012 he led the urological clinic at the Erasmus University Rotterdam, where he became professor of urology for life.

According to university bibliographies, Schröder is the author and co-author of over 650 publications and 21 monographs. His commitment has brought him numerous awards and honors in the USA and Europe. This includes among others

  • 1991–2012 Head of the ER Study of Screening for Prostate Cancer (ERSPC)
  • 2012 member of the American Academie of Science
  • 2002 Commander in the Order of Orange-Nassau of the Netherlands
  • 2001 honorary member of the European Society for Urology and similar organizations in EU countries and the USA
  • 2001 member of the Dutch Health Council
