Friedrich "Fritz" Hilpert (born May 31, 1956 in Amberg ) is a German musician and member of the electro-pop band Kraftwerk .

Career

Hilpert was taught percussion instruments at the Max-Reger-Gymnasium in Amberg until 1976 . During this time he also played drums in various live bands. From 1978 he studied sound engineering at the Robert Schumann Institute of the Rhineland State University for Music (now the Robert Schumann University ) in Düsseldorf and at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences . In 1986 he received his qualification as a graduate engineer for image and sound technology. Before joining Kraftwerk in 1989, he worked as a freelance sound engineer with several German artists with the New Wave band “Din A Testbild”.

In addition to his studio work, he replaced Wolfgang Flür in live performances when "Kraftwerk" resumed touring in 1990, and worked on the development of the 1991 album The Mix .

Musically he has contributed to Kraftwerk's compositions since the 1999 song “Expo 2000”. He was mentioned as co-composer for most of the tracks on the Tour de France Soundtracks album . During the tour with Kraftwerk in Australia, on which the band was one of the main acts at the Global Gathering Festival, Hilpert fell ill and believed that he had some kind of heart disease. This incident forced Kraftwerk to cancel the performance in Melbourne on November 22, 2008 , but was still allowed to fly and continue the tour the next day.
