history

The development of the educational establishment:

  • 1880: On October 2, the Kgl. Amberg teacher training institute opened.
  • In 1934, instead of the teachers' seminar, the German advanced school was set up, which led to the Abitur in 7 years.
  • In 1954 the German Gymnasium emerged from it after a few intermediate names.
  • In 1965 the Musisches Gymnasium was renamed to the Max-Reger-Gymnasium ( MRG ) and expanded to include the long form (in 9 years to the Abitur).
  • In 1970 the boarding school gained more space by adding stories to the old building.
  • 1976: The expanding new building can be inaugurated on October 22nd.
  • In 2001 the renovation of the west and north wing of the boarding school building (Malteser) was completed.
  • In 2005 the school celebrates 125 years of the Max-Reger-Gymnasium
  • In 2008 the west wing (old building) with a new kitchen and dining room went into operation. The baroque inner courtyard of the Maltese building is being rebuilt according to old plans.
  • 2012: The north wing (old building) is completely restored.
  • 2016: In December, the Bay's budget committee approved. State Parliament funds for the renovation and expansion of the east and south wing (old building)
  • The associated work will begin in 2018

The namesake Max Reger (1873-1916) is considered the most important composer in the Upper Palatinate . In July 1889, 16-year-old Reger was the first to pass the entrance exams for preparation at the Royal Teachers Training Institute with a grade of 1 in all subjects. Only after this security did his parents give their consent to study composition in Sondershausen . On 30./31. August 1904 Reger gave a concert in the Amberg City Theater.
