Helmut Schwämmlein

Helmut Schwämmlein (born August 17, 1944 in Amberg ; † March 20, 2003 ) was a German musicologist , music teacher and ensemble leader in the field of early music .

biography

Helmut Schwämmlein was a full-time high school teacher for music at the Albrecht Altdorfer High School in Regensburg. In 1985 he received his doctorate on the Amberg Renaissance composer Mathias Gastritz .

In 1973 Schwämmlein founded - initially together with his father Karl Schwämmlein - the ensemble Musica Antiqua Ambergensis , which specialized in the performance of early music from the period 1200–1630 in historical performance practice. The focus of the work was the music of the Upper Palatinate , its former capital Amberg and the Free Imperial City of Regensburg . The ensemble developed the Spectaculum Musicae concert series as an open concert form with a mixture of historical music, dance, pantomime and theater. The repertoire is documented by numerous sound carriers, recordings for radio and television as well as concerts at home and abroad. After the death of Schwämmlein, the Musica Antiqua Ambergensis dissolved. Some of the ensemble members founded the successor ensemble ... sed vivam!
