The Albrecht-Altdorfer-Gymnasium Regensburg (AAG) is a humanistic, modern-language and scientific-technological high school in the east of downtown Regensburg , which has been named after the German painter and master builder Albrecht Altdorfer since 1962 .

history

Albrecht Altdorfer Gymnasium on Minoritenweg

Encouraged by Mayor Oskar von Stobäus , the building for the Protestant Royal New High School was completed in 1894 on the foundations of the demolished city wall according to plans by the city architect Adolf Schmetzer, which was named after the Catholic New High School , which was in use from 1880 onwards " Old high school " wanted to delimit. The forerunner name of the high school was Royal Realgymnasium . Under this name, the grammar school was housed in the Thon-Dittmer-Palais from 1864 to 1884 , was called the Neues Gymnasium from 1880 and was then relocated to the newly built building on Minoritenweg from 1894.

The grammar school has been named after the famous painter Albrecht Altdorfer since 1962 . Regarding renaming, there is some literature that deals with it. From 1880 annual reports were written in the annual cycle, which reflected the events well.

architecture

Formative elements of the architecture of the school building in the neo-renaissance style (1892/94, Adolf Schmetzer) are the angular three-storey hipped roof building with corner pavilions and gable, as well as the foundations of the city wall and a Zwerau tower (around 1330).
