Stephan Zippe

Stephan Zippe (born January 18, 1972 in Amberg ) is a German church musician, cantor and specialist in Gregorian chant .

Life

After graduating from high school at the Max-Reger-Gymnasium in Amberg , Stephan Zippe studied Catholic church music from 1992 to 1997 at the University of Music and Theater in Munich . Even then, the focus of his work was on Gregorian chant. Since completing his studies, he has worked as a church musician in the parish of St. Kastulus in Moosburg an der Isar . In 2006 he was appointed professor of Gregorian chant and German liturgy at the Munich University of Music. After moving up as deputy in 2013, Stephan Zippe has also been the diocesan music director of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising since 2019 .

In addition to his practical work as a church musician, he also deals scientifically with Gregorian chant. Stephan Zippe is a member of the Associazione Internazionale Studi di Canto Gregoriano ( AISCGre ), an international study society for Gregorian chant, and has headed its German-speaking section since 2011. One of his tasks is the restitution of melodies. He is also co-editor of the Graduale Novum , a chorale book that provides works of Latin Gregorian chant for Sundays and holidays.
