The Roth grammar school is a scientific, technological and linguistic grammar school in Roth near Nuremberg and one of three grammar schools in the Roth district .

history

The history of the Roth high school begins in 1964 with the establishment of a secondary school in Roth. Under the direction of the first rector Otto Haberzettl, it became a “mathematical and natural science high school” in the following year. As early as 1966, two years after it was founded, the “Verein der Freunde des Gymnasium Roth e. V. ”, which has been actively supporting the school ever since. Two years later, the modern language branch is approved as an additional training course. In 2004 a cafeteria was built to provide the students with hot lunches. Since the 2009/10 school year, the school offers Roth as one of seven high schools, Central Franconia, the introductory class of permits which graduates of the average maturity to repeat the 10th grade in high school and then migrate into the upper level of the Gymnasium. During this introductory year, the students have to learn a second foreign language, French at the Gymnasium Roth. In 2012 and 2013 the school was named a “European Environment School”. In addition, the grammar school has been a “German Chess School” since 2012 and a “Basketball Base School” since 2013, working closely with SpVgg Roth and Brose Baskets Bamberg . As the “ Comenius School ”, the Roth grammar school exchanged ideas on cultural topics with schools in Opava and Racibórz from 2013 to 2015 under the heading “The beauty around us”.

School building and technical equipment

The Roth grammar school initially consisted of just one building, which has been expanded over the years. In 1971, a two-storey extension with 14 classrooms, two physics classrooms, two physics exercise rooms and collection and preparation rooms followed. In 1992, the new administration wing in front of Building I was completed. Since 2006 the high school has had a cafeteria with 117 seats in the dining room. In 2009, in addition to the single gym, a double gym was built after the former indoor swimming pool that was located at this point had to be demolished. In order to enable the integration of physically handicapped students, the school was made largely barrier-free in 1990/91.

The technical equipment includes several interactive whiteboards, three IT rooms with 16 computers each and mobile multimedia units in each classroom with an internet-enabled computer, document camera and projector. The extensive library offers more than 8500 books as well as computer workstations with internet access. Since 2010 there has been a digital substitution plan in the large auditorium, which is updated several times a day.

Partner schools and exchanges

In the fall of 1980 the first exchange took place with St. Martins School in Brentwood. Due to a longstanding partnership between the English city and Roth, the street on which the Roth grammar school is located is called Brentwoodstrasse. This exchange has been suspended since the 2010/11 school year.

With the Gimnazjum No. 3 in. Augustyna Weltzla in Racibórz in 2011 a project seminar resulted in an annual cultural exchange for the 8th grade. The margravial castle in Roth , which was named after the city of Ratibor , shows that the connection between the town of Roth and Ratibor has a long tradition .

As with the partnership with Ratibor, since 2011 the 10th grade students have had the opportunity to get to know students of the Mendelovo gymnázium and the city of Opava better.

Since 2007 there has been a one-week exchange in September and March for 9th grade students learning French.

11th grade students who continue to study French can take part in a week-long exchange in October and March with the Blaise Pascal Lyceum (Lycée Blaise Pascal ) in Clermont-Ferrand.

As part of another project seminar in the 2013/2014 school year, the first contact with the Xinqiao Middle School took place, which is mainly due to an initiative of the local economy and the city of Roth and is only possible with their support.

School life

The Roth Gymnasium takes part in the following competitions: In the 5th and 6th grades there is the " kangaroo test " (mathematics test), in the 6th grade the " reading competition " and in the 8th grade the "MOBy" test (Bavarian Mathematical Olympiad ). In addition, the pupils have the opportunity to take part in “ Jugend forscht ” and the “French Internet team competition”. In chess, you can take part in in-house championships, Christmas tournaments, the Middle Franconian and Bavarian championships. In the football elective, “ Youth trained for the Olympics ” is offered. There is the possibility to take belt exams in judo lessons and to take part in district competitions that have already taken place several times at the Roth Gymnasium.

In addition to the district school triathlon for the 5th – 10th In classes, the numerous performances by the choir, the big band, the orchestra and the various theater groups at the grammar school are particularly popular.

The regular lesson times are divided into six lessons of 45 minutes each in the morning and, depending on the class level, up to four more in the afternoons after the lunch break. Lessons start at 7:50 a.m.
