Sebastian Reinwand (born August 7, 1987 in Schwabach ) is a German long-distance runner .

Career

Sebastian Reinwand came through his father, a triathlete, to the athletes of TV 21 Büchenbach in 2001 and trained there under coach Elli Müller initially all athletic disciplines. Following a change of school from Schwabach to Gymnasium Roth , Sebastian Reinwand joined SC Roth 52 and coach Loni Schroll in 2003, under whom he won his first age group individual title in 2006 as a 19-year-old with the Bavarian championship over 5000 m. After starting a business degree at the University of Regensburg in 2009, Sebastian Reinwand moved from the club SC Roth 52, which had meanwhile been renamed TSG 08 Roth, to LG Telis Finanz Regensburg and coach Kurt Ring.

After completing his bachelor's degree, Sebastian Reinwand returned to Loni Schroll and TSG 08 Roth. After a year in the "works team" of his employer Memmert, he moved to the Allgemeine Rather Turnverein in Düsseldorf . There he achieved the greatest successes of his running career with two podium places at national level and participation in the European Athletics Championships in 2018 , at the home European championships he reached 33rd place out of 58 finishers in the marathon .

Previous attempts at the marathon distance have not always been successful. In 2013 on his marathon debut at the Frankfurt Mararathon, Sebastian Reinwand finally had to give up at km 37 due to calf cramps from kilometer 20. In October 2015 he was able to finish the Cologne Marathon in a controlled run as the best German in 2:31:30 h in fifth place, but ran in the 2015 German championships integrated into the Frankfurt Marathon with 31 seconds behind Andreas Straßner trained him past the podium for fourth place (2:19:20 h) . A year later, again at the Frankfurt Marathon, he only started as a pacemaker for the top women.

At the German championships in 2018, this time at the Düsseldorf Marathon , Sebastian Reinwand had calf cramps at kilometer 41, so that while in the lead he had to let Tom Gröschel pass without a fight. With the achieved time of 2:15:27 h he nevertheless fulfilled the team norm of the European Athletics Championships of 2:17:00 h .

After the European Championships there was a longer injury break and after two years the ART Düsseldorf marathon team was dissolved for financial reasons. Finally, Sebastian Reinwand ended his professional career as a runner after nine years at the end of 2018.

In his career, Sebastian Reinwand won several medals in the team rankings at the German Athletics Championships . In the team of LG Telis Finanz Regensburg 2010 bronze in the half marathon (together with Dennis Pyka and Maximilian Meingast ) and 2012 gold in the 10 km road run ( Philipp Pflieger and Jonas Koller ), with TSG 08 Roth 2015 gold in the 10 km road run ( Julian Flügel and Simon Stützel ), silver in the half marathon ( Andreas Straßner and Joseph Katib ) and gold in the marathon (Andreas Straßner and Julian Flügel). In 2016 he won the gold medal in the marathon under the Asics Team Memmert (with Andreas Straßner and Simon Stützel), in 2017 with the second team of the ART Düsseldorf bronze in the half marathon (Julian Flügel and Timo Göhler ) and again in 2018 with the ART Düsseldorf gold in the marathon ( Philipp Baar and Andreas Straßner).
