The Mix is a studio album released in 1991 by the German band Kraftwerk . It consists of a selection of songs that originally appeared on previous Kraftwerk albums and that have been rearranged and recorded. The album was released in a German and an English version.

History of origin

At the end of the 1980s it became relatively quiet around Kraftwerk. The last regular studio album Electric Café was released in 1986. Digital technology had found its way into music production and Kraftwerk's self-made computers no longer looked up to date. The band therefore started to bring their Kling-Klang-Studio up to date and to digitize their old music . While working on the remix CD, Karl Bartos left the group to start the Elektric Music project . Fernando Abrantes joined the band for him.

The album was released in an English and a German version on June 11, 1991 with the line-up Hütter - Schneider - Hilpert - Abrantes. Florian Schneider and Ralf Hütter are named as producers . Fritz Hilpert has a credit for “Music Data Mix” .

The album was tailored to the international dance market and contained remixes of well-known Kraftwerk songs, with the English version also containing English-language texts. The group itself understood the album as a "Kling Klang Studio Live Album" because they viewed the studio as an instrument and saw the remixing as a "live" performance.

Track list

Several versions of the album were released, including a double LP, specially tailored for the DJ market. The title list therefore depends on the CD version. The English-language titles are given in brackets.

  1. "The Robots" - 8:56
  2. “Computer love” - 6:35
  3. Pocket Calculator - 4:32
  4. "Dentaku" (Dentaku) - 3:27
  5. "Autobahn" (Autobahn) - 9:27 am
  6. “Radioactivity” - 6:53
  7. "Trans Europe Express" (Trans Europe Express) - 3:20 am
  8. “Deduction” (deduction) - 2:18
  9. "Metal on Metal" - 4:58
  10. "Home computer" (home computer) - 8:02
  11. "Music Non-Stop" (Music Non Stop) - 6:38

The songs "Trans Europa Express", "Abzug" and "Metall auf Metall" are recorded together, without a break in between, as was the case with the 1977 album "Trans Europa Express". The song "Radioactivity" was changed significantly under the impressions of the Chernobyl disaster in 1986.

A revised version was released on October 30, 2009 as a single CD and on November 6 in the box The Catalog , which included eight CDs in the band's history. However, there are no major differences to the original publication.

Singles

A remix version of The Robots (The Mix Version) was released as a harbinger of the album . The English-language publication reached number 20 in the UK singles chart on June 1, 1991 and stayed in the UK Top 40 for a total of four weeks.

The second single was Radioactivity , which reached number 43 in the UK charts.

Chart success

The English version of the album reached number 27 in the Swiss, number 12 in the Austrian and number 15 in the British charts. The German album version reached number 7 in Germany.

Others

  • In the song "Trans Europa Express" the vocal part "We are walking into Düsseldorf City and meet Iggy Pop and David Bowie " is missing .
